This exercise is aimed at encouraging students to use musical instruments -in this case drums -to identify, understand and match rhythms to swing jazz-style music.
1 Divide class into groups of 12 people, with each group assigned one drum set. While
listening to the music, group members should work out among themselves how to use and who uses each part of the drum set to best match the rhythm of the music.
2 Then, each group should, in turn, perform their drum routines in accompaniment to the
music in front of other groups
3 After each group has performed, the class should engage in a teacher-led discussion to compare and ass.ess the different rhythm styles, interpretations and arrangements.
