Some discriminations in faunal composition between these two shell beds are likely to have been caused by the difference in bathymetric control due to the submarine topography. The marine Hiradoko Terrace including these shell beds is correlative with the Shimosueyoshi Terrace in the southern Kanto area, which is traceable with the shoreline features in many parts of the world, formed during a late Pleistocene eustatic high sea stand.
