 note = {エキゾティシズムという古来より、また洋の東西を問わず見られた現象を、西洋史、東洋史、日本史、英米文学、中国文学を専門とする研究者によって総合的に研究した。その際特に、オリエンタリズムや帝国主義に回収されないエキゾティシズムの力に的を絞り、その力をある程度具体的に明らかにしえた。中国庭園を愛で、東洋の陶磁器を愛好したヨーロッパの人々がそれによって影響を受け、いつしかモダニティへと導かれたといった事例がそうである。また、これに関連してシノワズリーとジャポニスムを比較したとき、通説とは逆にシノワズリーの方が西洋により根本的影響を与えた可能性があることも示唆しえた。, Exoticism is not confined to the West. Nor to modern age. We studied this elusive exoticism comprehensively. In doing so, we concentrated our efforts to the influence of exoticism which can't be reduced to Orientalism, or imperialism, and presented its concrete image. For example, European people, who loved Chinese garden and porcelain, were introduced to modernity ,before they knew what was happening exactly.
