| 内容記述 | Refusing is one of several language activities considered difficult because it tends to leave the addressee feeling uncomfortable. The refusal speech act is inseparable from the speaker's language background. This research aims to: (a) identify refusal strategies used by Japanese language learners and compare them to those used by Japanese native speakers; (b) investigate similarities and differences in the strategies used by each group; and ( c) explore problems affecting the use of refusal expressions among Japanese language learners. In order to gather data, this research uses a Discourse Completion Test (DCT) distributed to 98 Japanese language learners and 88 Japanese native speakers participating in the study. The results show similarities between Japanese language learners and Japanese native speakers in terms of the main semantic formulae or patterns of refusal strategies, using reason, apology expressions, and direct refusal. Likewise, similarities are found in the lower use of apology expressions by Japanese language learners whose mother tongue is Sundanese and by Japanese native speakers in a setting where the addressee is a lecturer to whom the speaker is close. Furthermore, Japanese language learners had problems in the use of refusal expressions: They frequently used direct refusal in the form ofjutsu no hiteikei 'negative willingness' and used terms of address. This contrasts with Japanese native speakers, who often use fakanokei 'negative ability' when refusing because the use of negative willingness in the context of refusal in Japanese culture indicates a strong rejection. | |||||

| 内容記述 | 言語行為の中で「断り」は相手に不快感を与える行為であるため， 最も難しい発話行為だとよく言われている。 また，「断り」は話し手の言語背景と不可分の関係にある。 本研究の目的は(a)インドネシア人日本語学習者と日本語母語話者の「断り」ストラテジーを調べること(b)それぞれの「断り」ストラテジーの共通点• 相違点を明らかにすること (c) インドネシア人日本語学習者における 「断り」に関する 問題点を指摘すること， の3 点にある。データ収集のために談話完成テストを利用し， インドネシア人日本語学習者98名と日本語母語話者88名の協力を得た。分析の結果ではインドネシア人日本語学習者と日本語母語話者は「断り」ストラテジ一のパター ンにおいて｛理由・言い訳｝｛詫び｝｛不可）を多用するという 共通点が見られ た。 ま た， 日本語母語話者とインドネシア人スンダ語母語話者の共通点としては｛詫び｝に関し， 親しくない先生より親しい先生に対する使用が少なかったことが分かった。 さらに，学習者は｛不可｝において「普通の否定形」を使用する傾向にあることと｛呼称）を使用し たことが「断り」ストラテジーの問題点として指摘できた。それに対し， 日本語母語話者は｛不可｝において 「普通の否定形」を全く使用しない。「普通の否定形」を使うと母語話者から 見れば強い拒否の意味で受け取られてしまうからである。 | |||||
