There is a possibility that mechanical actions cause irreversible changes in mechanical properties of the wool fibers. One of the irreversible changes is the property of fiber crimp recovery. The crimp recovery of the fibers after fabric finishing process is important from the view point of fabric quality. To investigate the effect of the spinning process on the crimp recovery of fibers, single fibers are sampled at the various stages of an ordinary modern worsted spinning system. These samples are then aged for 6 months in room conditions and dipped in hot-water at 98°C for 3 minutes to allow the fibers to relax. The condition of the hot-water treatment is a simulated condition of finishing processed for wool fabrics. The result is as follows.\nAll fibers taken out at the various stages of the spinning process do not recover fully their crimp into the original crimp level of the raw wool fiber even after the treatment in hot-water. The deterioration of the crimp recovery is especially remarkable during the carding process and also the drawing and spinning process from top to yarn.
