The results indicated that students require conversational Japanese language skills for communication with co11eagues while conducting experiments in a laboratory setting and participation in seminars. In addition, conversation skills are necessary for daily interactions on campus. Furthermore, findings suggest this necessity exists even when English is the primary language of instruction for university coursework. Based on these findings, we re­examined the Japanese language course curriculum and developed prototype audio-visual material specifically for science and technology students. Additionally, further development of the course curriculum and enrichment of teaching material will be necessary in the future.
