| 内容記述 | 俗世における個人の努力を強調するヒューマニズムの文化と、神への絶対的な帰依と魂の救済の確信を得るための不断の努力を旨とするプロテスタンティズムの心性とは、しばしば相乗的に作用して強固で継続的な行動の動機を形成する反面で、現世における成功を優先しがちな前者の発想と来世における魂のあり方こそを最も重視する後者の倫理は激しい葛藤を引き起こすこともあり得た。こういった矛盾をはらんだありようを劇作家は自分の創作を通してどのように分節化し対処していったのかという観点から、シェイクスピアの初期の『ヘンリー六世』三部作、『リチャード二世』と、晩年の『冬物語』を分析・解明した。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | The humanist culture, which emphasizes an individual’s efforts in the mundane world, and protestant ethics, that demands the absolute submission to the God and constant endeavor to get assured of the salvation of one’s soul in the next world, sometimes work together to motivate incessant active exertions, but often causes intolerable inner conflict in one’s mind. From the viewpoint of how dramatists articulate and deal with this contradictory mode of being through their creations, I analyzed “Henry the Sixth” and “Richard the Second, the plays written by Shakespeare in his early years, and “The Winter’s Tale” from the last years of his career. | |||||
