For this purpose, several typical districts are selected from historical and newly developed areas in Kanazawa City, and surveys were carried out by the questionnaire method, which was referring to traffic conditions, residential environment and others about surrounding streets. \n As a result of this study, in historical districts where narrow and complex street network is main characteristic, streets are classified into two types, one as streets of motor traffic and the other as streets which fairly exclude through traffic. And in these areas, residents' evaluation and using conditions are different from ones of newly devもloped district. Therefore, street improvement has to be planned in consideration of these kinds of conditions.
