In this study, we analyzed the effects of MSH on bone metabolism in vivo and in vitro using regenerating scales and demonstrated that MSH promotes osteoclastic and osteoblastic activity. In addition, we found that MSH promotes the secretion of calcitonin, which is involved in calcium metabolism. Furthermore, next-generation sequencing analyses were performed to investigate the differentiation mechanism from cycloid scales to ctenoid scales.
