The muscle thickness (MT) and EI of the quadriceps femoris\nmuscle were reported to be influenced by the muscle strength (MS) of the knee extensors.\nThis study was performed to investigate whether the MT and EI of the quadriceps femoris\nare associated with the MS of knee extensors, and to establish a predictive formula for the\nmaximal isometric MS of knee extensors.\nForty healthy volunteers 20-59 years old were included in this study. The maximal\nisometric MS of knee extensors on the dominant extremity was measured at knee\nflexion of 60°, and was defined as the maximal value over three repeated measurements.\nTransverse ultrasound images of the quadriceps on the dominant extremity were obtained\nwith a B-mode ultrasound imaging device and multi-frequency linear transducer. During\nmeasurements, the participants were completely relaxed and sat comfortably with\nthe knee flexed at 90°. A 10-MHz transducer with gain of 58 dB was used during all\nmeasurements. The transducer was positioned perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of\nthe quadriceps femoris, at the midpoint between the anterior superior iliac spine and\nthe proximal end of the patella. The same investigator then obtained three consecutive\nimages. The subcutaneous fat thickness, MT of each muscle, and EI of each muscle were\nanalyzed from three images acquired for the rectus femoris (RF) and vastus intermedius\n(VI), and the mean values of the three measurements were recorded. Pearson’s and\nSpearman’s correlation coefficients were calculated to investigate the relationships between\nsubcutaneous fat thickness, MT, EI, physical characteristics, and MS. Stepwise multiple\nregression analysis was then performed with MS value as the dependent variable, and the\ncharacteristics of the participants and values from the ultrasound images as independent\nvariables. In addition, multiple regression analysis was performed in two groups divided\naccording to age, i.e., the young adult group and the middle-aged group.\nThere were no significant differences in height, weight, BMI, or muscle circumference\nbetween the young adult group and middle-aged group. MS showed significant negative\ncorrelations with subcutaneous fat thickness, RFEI, and VIEI, and significant positive\ncorrelations with height, weight, circumference, RFMT, and VIMT. Stepwise regression\nanalysis identified height and VIMT as factors significantly associated with MS (adjusted\nR2 = 0.65). Height and VIMT contributed to MS in young and middle-aged individuals.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_7_heading_33":{"attribute_name":"見出し","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_heading_banner_headline":"原著","subitem_heading_language":"ja"},{"subitem_heading_banner_headline":"Original Article","subitem_heading_language":"en"}]},"item_7_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.24517/00055103","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_7_publisher_17":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"Wellness and Health Care Society "}]},"item_7_publisher_19":{"attribute_name":"出版者(別名)","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"ウェルネス・ヘルスケア学会 "}]},"item_7_source_id_9":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"2434-1509","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_7_version_type_25":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Kitagawa, Takashi"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"86738","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Miaki, Hiroichi"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"86739","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Osumi, Kumiko"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"86740","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Matsui, Nobumasa"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"86741","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Terada, Shigeru"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"86742","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2019-08-02"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"2434-1509_43-1_47-53.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"1.9 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_11","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"2434-1509_43-1_47-53.pdf","url":"https://kanazawa-u.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/48783/files/2434-1509_43-1_47-53.pdf"},"version_id":"ca2a4537-b150-4b61-b6d7-23cb00194d11"}]},"item_keyword":{"attribute_name":"キーワード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"Ultrasonography","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Muscle strength","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Muscle thickness","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Echo intensity","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Quadriceps femoris","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"Prediction of maximum isometric muscle strength of knee extensors using ultrasonography","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"Prediction of maximum isometric muscle strength of knee extensors using ultrasonography"}]},"item_type_id":"7","owner":"3","path":["3774"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2019-08-02"},"publish_date":"2019-08-02","publish_status":"0","recid":"48783","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Prediction of maximum isometric muscle strength of knee extensors using ultrasonography"],"weko_creator_id":"3","weko_shared_id":3},"updated":"2023-07-27T16:25:00.457898+00:00"}
