K+ ions permeate across a narrow selectivity filter (SF) in a single file. Conventional scenarios assume that K+ ions are tightly bound in the SF, and, thus, they are displaced from their energy well by ion–ion repulsion with an incoming ion. This tight coupling between entering and exiting ions has been called the “knock-on” mechanism. However, this paradigm is contradicted by experimental data measuring the water–ion flux coupling ratio, demonstrating fewer ion occupancies. Here, the results of molecular dynamics simulations of permeation through the KcsA potassium channel revealed an alternative mechanism. In the aligned ions in the SF (an ion queue), the outermost K+ was readily and spontaneously released toward the extracellular space, and the affinity of the relevant ion was ~ 50 mM. Based on this low-affinity regime, a simple queueing mechanism described by loose coupling of entering and exiting ions is proposed.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_4_description_22":{"attribute_name":"内容記述","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_description":"Embargo Period 12 months","subitem_description_type":"Other"}]},"item_4_description_5":{"attribute_name":"提供者所属","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_description":"金沢大学ナノ生命科学研究所","subitem_description_type":"Other"}]},"item_4_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.24517/00055242","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_4_publisher_17":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"The Physiological Society of Japan 日本生理学会 / Springer Verlag"}]},"item_4_relation_12":{"attribute_name":"DOI","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_relation_type":"isIdenticalTo","subitem_relation_type_id":{"subitem_relation_type_id_text":"10.1007/s12576-019-00706-4","subitem_relation_type_select":"DOI"}}]},"item_4_relation_28":{"attribute_name":"関連URI","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_relation_name":[{"subitem_relation_name_text":"https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs12576-019-00706-4"}],"subitem_relation_type_id":{"subitem_relation_type_id_text":"https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs12576-019-00706-4","subitem_relation_type_select":"URI"}},{"subitem_relation_name":[{"subitem_relation_name_text":"http://physiology.jp/"}],"subitem_relation_type_id":{"subitem_relation_type_id_text":"http://physiology.jp/","subitem_relation_type_select":"URI"}}]},"item_4_rights_23":{"attribute_name":"権利","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_rights":"Copyright © The Author(s) 2019 / The Physiological Society of Japan 日本生理学会 / Springer Japan"},{"subitem_rights":"This article is distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/), which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided you give appropriate credit to the original author(s) and the source, provide a link to the Creative Commons license, and indicate if changes were made."}]},"item_4_source_id_11":{"attribute_name":"NCID","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"AA12129145","subitem_source_identifier_type":"NCID"}]},"item_4_source_id_9":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"1880-6546","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"},{"subitem_source_identifier":"1880-6562","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_4_version_type_25":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Sumikama, Takashi"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{},{}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Oiki, Shigetoshi"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2020-08-29"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"FR-PR-SUMIKAMA-T-00706-4-12p.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"4.0 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_11","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"FR-PR-SUMIKAMA-T-00706-4-12p.pdf","url":"https://kanazawa-u.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/48923/files/FR-PR-SUMIKAMA-T-00706-4-12p.pdf"},"version_id":"9e1025a0-c887-4e0e-8cd7-8dd11629401e"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"journal article","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"Queueing arrival and release mechanism for K+ permeation through a potassium channel","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"Queueing arrival and release mechanism for K+ permeation through a potassium channel"}]},"item_type_id":"4","owner":"18","path":["2270"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2019-09-02"},"publish_date":"2019-09-02","publish_status":"0","recid":"48923","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Queueing arrival and release mechanism for K+ permeation through a potassium channel"],"weko_creator_id":"18","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-07-27T16:23:02.155107+00:00"}
