内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 Hakui City (in Ishikawa Prefecture) has formulated plans for developing and making
use of the Jike Site (寺家遺跡), a National Historic Site of Japan. Jike Site comprises the
remains of a place of worship, which has provided invaluable insight into Keta Jinja( 気多
神社), a shrine that dates back to the 8th and 9th century. Archeological surveys of the
site provide insights into the history of Keta Jinja, the highest ranking shrine in the Noto
Peninsula, such as how it was originally founded, how it developed over time, and what
beliefs were associated with the shrine. Given that the site offers such historical value, we
must ask the question : how can we communicate this value to local people, and how can
we pass it on to future generations ?
Hakui City has numerous other historic sites. In my view, each site is a“ living” treasure
in that it has its own particular historical background and reason for existing. It is up to
local residents to preserve and communicate such sites. When people start forgetting about
the site, it starts to die. That is why it is so important to create a system that encourages
as many residents as possible to involve themselves with the site. These activities must
be enjoyable for the residents. I want to advocate a system that allows many people to
involve themselves with the preservation of and to make use of Jikei Site and, in so doing,
to help preserve the site and the local community.
