内容記述 | The geotectonic characters of the Northern Kitakami massif and its significance on the geologic development of the Japanese Islands are discussed. The pre-Miyakoan rocks of the northern part of the Kitakami massif are classified on the basis of rock facies, geologic structure and paleontological evidence, as follows (Fig. 2) (1) Hayachine Tectonic Belt: composed mainly of the Upper Paleozoic including the Carboniferous (western side) and the Permian (eastern side) rocks. - Eastern marginal tectonic line of the Hayachine Tectonic Belt; (2) North Kitakami Belt: consists mainly of the Upper Paleozoic including the Permian and the Carboniferous? rocks. - Kuzumaki Tectonic Line; (3) Iwaizumi Belt: consists mainly of the Lower-Middle Mesozoic including the Upper Triassic (Kayamori Group) and the Jurassic-pre-Miyakoan Lower Cretaceous? (Iwaizumi Group) (Fig. 3 and 4). - Taro Tectonic Line; (4) Taro Belt: consists mainly of the Middle-Upper Mesozoic including the Upper Jurassic - pre-Miyakoan Lower Cretaceous (Rikuchu Group). The eugeosynclinal formations mentioned above, dipping mostly westwards are isoclinally folded, intruded by granodiorites and overlain with clino-unconformity by the post-orogenic formations of shallow water facies (Miyakoan Lower Cretaceous Miyako Group, Upper Cretaceous Kuji Group and Paleogene Noda Group), that dip gently eastwards. The Early Cretaceous granodioritic intrusions (110-120 m.y.) concentrate in the northeastern part of the Kitakami massif with the harmonious trends with the folded Mesozoic formations, showing close relationship between them and the intersection of the Paleozoic strata ofnearly NW-SE trend and the Mesozoic strata of NNW-SSE occurs on the both sides of the Kuzumaki Tectonic Line. These structural and paleontological features point to the existence of a Mesozoic eugeosynclinal tectonic province in the outer marginal part of the Kitakami massif. The development and distributions of the pre-Neogene Tertiary rocks in the Kitakami massif and the Ou mountains (Fig. 5) suggest the gradual shift of the sedimentary basin, during the Paleozoic-Mesozoic age, from west to east in the area investigated (Fig. 1). | |||||
