| 内容記述 | The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports Science and Technology’s “Curriculum Guidelines” have undergone a series of revisions as goals to increase Japanese students’ English proficiency have been given greater precedence. These goals translate into measurable policy shifts between 1998 and 2008 Curriculum Guidelines. As such, this paper serves two purposes: to contrast some of the major changes to the 1998 and 2008 iterations, and to report on the survey findings published by the ministry and augmented by the author to gain a clearer perception of influence on English learning one year after students have graduated high school. The results suggest that whilst improvements are being made when the students enter in higher education, it is critically important for them to be learner autonomy outside-of-classroom, which reinforces the need for autonomous planning and study. |
