| 内容記述 | 本研究は、15世紀の英語教訓詩、ピーター・イドリー作『息子への教え』を収録した11点の現存写本のうち、とくに顕著なテクスト上の特徴を有する２写本に焦点を当てた。関連の深い他の３写本との比較等を通して、２写本におけるイドリーのテクストの編集上の特徴を分析し、その理由・背景を考察した。一方では、当時の宗教的・政治的状況を背景とした写本編纂者によるテクストの意図的な編集が認められ、他方では、筆耕者による不足部分の追加、制作依頼者による所有物としての写本の意味づけとイドリー教訓詩の収録との関連、写本内の他のテクストとのテーマ上の関連性が浮き彫りとなり、１５世紀英語教訓詩の受容の一端が明らかとなった。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | Of eleven extant manuscripts that contain Peter Idley's Instructions to his Son, this project has focused on two manuscripts to describe characteristic features of Idley's text recorded in them and discuss the causes of and reasons for such features. The project has elucidated that the rearrangements of many parts of Idley's text seen in one manuscript are the result of editing and reflects the compiler's intention to confirm clerical authority, an intention fitting in the larger picture of the fifteenth-century conservative religio-political culture. An examination of the other manuscript has shown the scribes' addition to Idley's poetry to amend what their exemplar lacked, as well as the relationship between the collection's significance as a status symbol for the commissioner and the recording of this particular piece of advice literature. | |||||
