| 内容記述 | We present a study on the Ulua-Yojoa polychrome pottery from Copán, Honduras. Focusing on the complete form and its intent of use, we discussed its age while confronting it with the results of radiocarbon dating, excavated contexts, and accompanying pottery. Regarding the dating of the Ulua-Yojoa polychrome pottery, we refer to the radiocarbon dating results obtained by Joyce et al. and Bill, to call attention to the differences in the age ratio among these researchers. While Joyce points out that the use of the Ulua-Yojoa polychrome pottery at Copán began early in its production history (between 550 and 700 AD), Bill describes the Ulua-Yojoa polychrome pottery as a late Coner (between 750 and 820 AD) dating marker. In order to address this issue, the Ulua-Yojoa polychrome pottery excavated at Copán was sorted out and the results of radiocarbon datings were used to confirm that the pottery was coeval with that which serves as a chronological marker. The Dedalos and Santa Rita classes, identified as part of the Red Group, were considered to have been used as burial accessories between 550 and 700 AD. The Yojoa class of the Maroon group was also considered to have been used around the same time as the Red Group. The Ulua-Yojoa polychrome pottery that was found during the excavations confirmed its special status as a burial article. Other than a burial object, it was also found in caches. There remains the possibility that, while used as a burial offering, the Ulua-Yojoa polychrome pottery could be a symbol of the proprietor's homeland or ancestry. Due to the possibility of exchanges with other regions at the household level, it could have been given as gifts and, thus, could also have value as trade articles. |
