The orientation course uses a textbook based on regulations（ Verordnung über die Durchführung von Integrationskursen für Ausländer und Spätaussiedler） and a curriculum（ Curriculum für einen bundesweiten Orientierungskurs） and is conducted with the aims of‘ generating understanding of German state institutions’,‘ cultivating positive assessment concerning Germany’,‘ conveying knowledge regarding the rights and responsibilities of residents and citizens’‘, developing the ability to get information independently’,‘ building societal participation capabilities’, and ‘acquiring the ability to understand different cultures’ In this paper, the orientation course’s characteristics are brought to the forefront, via a　comparison of its textbooks with Japan’s Guide to Life in Japan, a text aimed at technical interns.
