In spite of this, few academic studies exist that examine the type of international students who would like to secure local employment. Using data from a sample of 571 international students enrolled in national universities in Japan, this study investigated how residence in large cities, Japanese ability, and living with family members affect students’ orientation regarding choice of work location after graduation. More specifically, respondents were categorized into three groups according to their orientation (i.e., “local-oriented,” “non-local-oriented,” and “non-Japan-oriented”) and a multinomial regression that predicts the effects of the three variables was conducted.
