| 内容記述 | The purpose of the research is to investigate types of gaze behavior that becomes the feature of those Japanese Native Speaker (JNS) and an Indonesian Sundanese Native Speaker (SNS) refuse in a refusal context. This is also to clarify the relationship between gaze behavior and refusal utterance by comparing those languages. As results of the analysis of the eye contact behavior accompanied by refusal utterances, previous studies mostly pointed out that refusals are difficult to utter and cause breaking eye contact. However, this study found that among conversation participants of the same sex and close relation, eye contact behavior tends to occur frequently while uttering refusals. Furthermore, the study also revealed that the content of speech tend to affect eye contact behavior. | |||||
