The cutting characteristics of the actively driven rotary lathe tool are investigated from the viewpoint of thermal aspects. The MQL external turning tests of heat-resistant Ni-based alloy (Inconel718) are carried out, in which the cutting temperature is measured using a fiber-coupled two-color pyrometer. The maximum tool temperature in turning of Inconel718 is approximately 100 degree higher than that in SUS304.
